The back of the coin bears a Carniolan honey bee, a subspecies of the western honey bee native to Slovenia, southern Austria, and parts of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria, with the Latin name "Apis mellifera" written to the right of it, and the nominal value, expressed in numbers, to the left of the bee.
The front of the coin bears an embossed square surface with the number "50" impressed into it, the legend "REPUBLIKA SLOVENIJA" running to the left, and the denomination in words reading "PETDESET STOTINOV" and the date of mintage to the right.
